Vodafone-Idea has launched a new AI based spam detection feature for its millions of users. Vodafone-Idea users will no longer receive fake calls and messages on their numbers. Earlier, Airtel and BSNL have rolled out AI based spam detection feature for their users. This system will work on machine learning technology, in which fake messages and calls will be blocked at the network level itself. The company has tested this system in the initial phase, in which 24 million i.e. 240 crore fake messages have been flagged.

The private telecom company said in its press release that a new solution has been implemented to flag spam SMS and calling. Vodafone-Idea has named these spam messages as the gateway to fraud. This AI based solution of the company will protect 18 crore mobile users of the country from fake calls and messages. The AI ​​based system will check dangerous text messages coming on the user’s phone at the network level itself.

This system of Vi will identify and block fake URLs, promotions etc. given in fraudulent messages. The automated machine used for this system of the company works on AI algorithms. The company claims that for this the AI ​​algorithm has been trained with millions of fake or spam messages. If any phishing link, unwanted sender details, fraudulent phrases are found in the messages coming on the users’ phones, then the AI ​​system will block them.

Suspected spam message

If this system of Vodafone-Idea considers any message as spam, then the message ‘Suspected Spam’ will flash on the screen of the user’s phone. Now it will depend on the user whether he opens the message or not. The company said that this system has been developed on the existing infrastructure so that users can get rid of spam calls and messages.

TRAI is also taking strict steps

Apart from the steps being taken by telecom companies to stop cyber crime, Telecom Regulator (TRAI) is also making changes in its policy. The telecom regulator has implemented a new rule for unsolicited messages and calls from October 1, 2024. After the implementation of this rule, telemarketers without whitelisting will not be able to make any kind of communication on the users’ numbers. Also, users can also report any kind of fraud on the Chakshu portal of the Department of Telecommunications.
