The Bangladesh government on Tuesday reacted sharply to India’s External Affairs Ministry’s statement on the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Bangladesh said that the statement of the Foreign Ministry is baseless and against the friendship between the two countries. Bangladesh also said that it does not interfere in its judiciary, as it is completely independent.
Action was taken against Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu of ISKCON for protesting against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. He was arrested by Bangladesh Police from Dhaka Airport on Monday on charges of treason and disturbing communal harmony. In protest against this, people of the Hindu community took to the streets of Dhaka and blocked the road. There were also reports of violence from many places. Das is the leader of the Hindu group Samishta Sanatani Jot.
Bangladesh said, ‘Such baseless statements not only misrepresent the facts but are also contrary to the spirit of friendship and understanding between the two neighboring countries.’
India expressed concern over Das’s arrest and denial of bail.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, we have expressed deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of Bangladesh ‘Samilit Sanatani Jot’. The incident follows several attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. We urge the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.
MEA’s statement does not reflect the harmony that exists among all religions
Bangladesh responded by saying that the Indian Foreign Ministry’s statement does not reflect the harmony that exists among people of all religions in the country. Dhaka said the Foreign Ministry’s statement completely ignores the fact that the Bangladesh government is committed to ending the culture of impunity for perpetrators of gross human rights violations against the people of the country.
Bangladesh increased security to maintain religious harmony
Bangladesh also said it was committed to maintaining religious harmony in the country. Besides, he also expressed concern over the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chattogram and announced to increase security so that religious harmony can be maintained.

ISKCON Bangladesh’s statement regarding Das’s arrest
ISKCON Bangladesh has expressed concern regarding the current situation in Bangladesh and the arrest of Chinmoy Das. ISKCON said that we strongly condemn the arrest of Das, the spokesperson of Sanatani Jot, incorporated in Bangladesh. We also criticize the violence and attacks against the Sanatani community in various parts of Bangladesh. We appeal to the authorities of Bangladesh to promote peace and co-existence for the followers of Sanatan Dharma.
ISKCON further said, Chinmay Das, who is the spokesperson of Bangladesh Samit Sanatani Jot and a Bangladeshi citizen, has always raised his voice for the protection of minority communities. It is very important to protect their right to freedom of expression and inspire others to have this right. We wish that Chinmoy Das and the Sanatani community deserve justice as citizens of this country, and we insist that there should not be any kind of discrimination against them.
