Lucknow: The results of by-elections held on nine seats in Uttar Pradesh will be declared on Saturday. Counting of votes will start at 8 am. Trends will start emerging after some time. You will continuously get information related to latest trends and vote counting on India TV. Security arrangements will be tight at the counting venue.
Elections were held on these seats
By-elections were held on November 20 on Meerapur, Kundarki, Sisamau, Katehari, Phulpur, Majhwan, Ghaziabad, Karhal and Khair seats in UP. The results of the by-elections will not have any impact on the government, but this contest is being seen as the first major contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its political rivals after the Lok Sabha elections. BJP and SP have accused each other of irregularities in the elections.
SP chief gave this message to candidates and workers
Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has expressed confidence that the results of the by-elections will be in favor of his party. The SP chief tweeted and said that there is an appeal to the Election Commission and the candidates of all the 9 seats of India Alliance-SP in Pachnaav that tomorrow morning they should ensure that the postal ballots are counted first as per the rules and then the votes of EVM machines are counted. Everyone should be fully alert and immediately inform the Election Commission and us in case of any irregularity or suspicion of it. An assurance has been received from the Election Commission that there will be no irregularities. Remain fully alert, alert and cautious until you receive the certificate of victory.
BJP and SP had won these seats in 2022
In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP had won Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhwan and Khair seats. Whereas SP had won in Sisamau, Katehari, Karhal and Kundarki. Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), which was then an ally of SP, won the Meerapur seat. The party subsequently switched sides and is now part of the BJP-led NDA.
These parties also fielded candidates
Congress did not contest the by-election, but it supported SP. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) contested all nine seats, while Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) fielded candidates in Ghaziabad, Kundarki and Mirapur. Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) led by Chandrashekhar Azad also contested all the seats except Sisamau.
