India’s space agency ISRO has started the first analog space mission in Leh, Ladakh. It is reported that this mission has been started with the collaborative effort of Human Spaceflight Centre, AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Bombay and the support of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. Under this mission, ISRO will create such a place in Leh, which will be like the conditions of another planet. Through this, ISRO will test the preparedness to deal with the challenges coming in base stations at places far from the Earth.
What is analog space mission?
The first analog mission launched by ISRO in Leh is a big experiment in itself. Actually, in the language of space, analog mission is like an imitation of a real mission. Under this, scientists choose such a place, which is similar to the environment and atmosphere of space or any celestial body. These places are later prepared as per the set standards, so that astronauts or those visiting other celestial bodies can be trained at similar places.
It is noteworthy that India is preparing for many important missions in the coming days. The most important among these is the Gaganyaan Mission, under which India is going to send a passenger into space for the first time. In such a situation, preparation for such analog mission in Leh is important. In the coming time, these analog missions will also prove to be important for missions on different celestial bodies, through which astronauts will get training.
Why Ladakh only for analog mission?
Ladakh is important for its geological features. The conditions here match the conditions of the Moon and Mars to some extent. The cold and dry environment and high altitude area are considered suitable for testing different technologies and preparations for long-duration space missions.

What will happen during these analog missions?
Through ISRO’s preparations, participants in these analog missions will experience habitable conditions in other planets and celestial bodies. It is here that they will be prepared for future space missions. Scientists will monitor the management and mental state of crew members after being placed in such conditions.
