Haryana Municipal Body Election
Chandigarh: Sunday voting for the municipal elections in Haryana concluded. Out of more than 51 lakh eligible voters, 46 percent exercised their franchise. The officers provided this information. He said that the voting was peaceful. Voting was held to elected Mayor and ward members of seven municipal corporations- Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal and Yamunanagar. Apart from this, by -elections were also held for the post of Mayor of Ambala and Sonipat Municipal Corporations. Voting ran from 8 am to 6 pm.
Officials said that 46 percent polling was held in the municipal elections. He said that there may be a slight increase in total percentage after the entire figures are collected. Similarly, elections were held for the city councils and all ward members of Ambala Sadar, Pataudi Jatauli Mandi, Thanesar and Sirsa. By -elections were also held for the post of President of Sohna Municipal Council in Gurugram district. Along with this, the presidents of 21 city committees and all the ward members were also voted for the election. By -elections were also held for the post of Chairman of Assandh (Karnal district) and Ismailbad (Kurukshetra) Municipal Committee.
Government-Saini with ‘triple engine’ in Haryana
Before the election, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini expressed confidence that the BJP would win the election and said that after the formation of the ‘triple engine’ government, the work will be three times faster. The Congress appealed to the voters to win its candidates by an absolute majority. In Haryana, Congress has been trying to reverse its luck in the municipal elections for more than 10 years. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was among those who voted early in the morning, who cast their vote at a polling station in Karnal. Khattar appealed to voters to vote. He said, “To vote is our democratic right and is also our duty.” He expressed confidence that the BJP will win the election.
More than 40 percent turnout in Gurugram
Union Minister of State Krishna Pal Gurjar cast his vote at a booth in Faridabad. Haryana Minister Anil Vij cast his vote in Ambala Cantt. He said, “All voters should participate in the biggest festival of democracy. A ‘triple engine’ government will be formed in Haryana. “He said,” People know that the BJP is in power in both the Center and Haryana and if the party also comes to power the municipal bodies, development will accelerate. “For the post of Mayor from Manesar, BJP candidate Sundarlal Yadav cast his vote at a booth in the area. Municipal corporation elections are being held for the first time in Manesar. Gurugram polled more than 40 percent, while Farrukhnagar in the district recorded about 77 percent polling. Manesar polled 65 percent and Sohna 35.3 percent. Sonepat had about 29 percent polling, although Kharkhauda in the district had more than 62 percent polling. Rohtak recorded more than 53 percent polling. Ambala district had about 32 percent polling in Ambala, 52.3 percent in Ambala Sadar and 67.3 percent in Barara. Faridabad recorded about 40 percent polling.
EVM malfunction, late voting started
Sources said that polling started one hour late due to malfunction in electronic voting machine (EVM) at a polling station in ward number five of Gurugram Municipal Corporation. Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh had earlier said that comprehensive arrangements have been made including security for the independent, fair and transparent elections of urban local bodies. Singh said that 39 candidates are contesting for the post of Mayor in nine municipal corporations. Similarly, 27 candidates are in the fray for the post of president in five city councils and a total of 151 candidates are contesting for the post of president of 23 city committees. Ward number 36 of Faridabad Municipal Corporation, ward number 22 of Gurugram Municipal Corporation, ward number eight and 11 of Karnal Municipal Corporation and only one candidate in ward number nine of Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation were in the fray, which led to unopposed in these seats. Candidates of ward number 24 of Ambala Sadar Municipal Council and ward number seven and 32 of Thanesar Municipal Council were also elected unopposed. Apart from this, 17 ward members were also elected unopposed in various municipal committees. Voting for Panipat Municipal Corporation will be held on March 9. The counting of votes will start at 8 am on March 12 and the results will be declared on the same day. (input language)
